Memories . . .

Today is Memorial Day, set aside for remembering our loved ones who have passed away. It’s always nice to have a time where we focus on our family and friends who are no longer here to share our day-to-day activities, events, and memories.
My Parents, Betty and Gordon

I lost both parents within a four-year span of time—my dad, Gordon, first in 2004, then my mom, Betty, in 2008. I still want to pick up the phone and celebrate good news with her or cry on her shoulder when bad news invades my life. Who do I call now? Even though my husband and I share those happy or distressful moments, and my kids do as well, there’s just something missing when I can’t call Mom. I miss her very much.

My dad used to bring my kids all kinds of treasures he’d picked up at garage and estate sales or at resale shops. I still have the metal chain 1920s Flapper Purse he gave me years ago. He was an avid collector and I have kept a number of cherished items from his collections. I miss him very much.

My In-Laws, Adeline and Paul
I also think about my in-laws, Paul and Adeline, who passed away many years ago. Although my mother-in-law never saw her grandkids, my father-in-law knew Ian up to age 3, and was able to hold Ashley at two months. Both grandparents would have been so pleased with and proud of their grandchildren.

Memories of fun times and hilarious incidents still play in my brain when it comes to my own sets of grandparents. I pass those stories down to my kids. But the best news is knowing we’ll see them all again when we’re with the Lord someday.

Aren’t you glad to have this day to
remember special people?

Six, Triple Two--

What does THAT mean???

It's actually the education system I went through when growing up in Medford, Oregon. At that time we all spent Six Years in Grade School, Two Years in Junior High (7th and 8th,) Two Years in Mid High (9th and 10th) and Two Years in Senior High (11th and 12th.)

It was wonderful going back there and visiting schools. I thought you might enjoy seeing a couple photos. I didn't get outside photos of Hoover Elementary or Hedrick Middle School, but I was able to visit and speak at both schools.

I went to Medford Mid High which was the original high school in Medford. In more recent years it became South Medford, and most recently (after they built a new South Medford High School) it's been used to house offices, etc.

Mid High For Grades 9 & 10

Here's the stadium at the former Mid High where Medford Senior High played all its games. Still, North Medford plays games here.

Medford Senior High Stadium (Now North Medford)

And here's where I graduated--Medford Senior High, now North Medford.

I Attended Grades 11 & 12 at Medford Senior High

I sure enjoyed the trip down "Memory Lane." What are your memories? Have you visited a place where you once lived or went to school? How different is it now? I'm always amazed how life just moves along with or without us!

Boston, Pledge & National Anthem

Me Speaking At Wilson

When I visited Wilson School in Medford, I spoke at an assembly with the entire school attending. It was wonderful, but the most amazing part of the day was when they started off with The Pledge of Allegiance.

What a great way to begin the afternoon! I hadn't said the Pledge in years!

Then it gets even More Amazing when they play a video of The Star Spangled Banner sung before a Boston ice hockey game. Wow! Then the entire school sang it after the video. It was especially emotional because my visit was during the week of the Boston Marathon bombing. If you haven't seen the video, check it out--so inspiring, patriotic and emotional:

Look At That Crowd Of Attentive Kids!!

Hmmm . . . how could I speak after all that?? Well, I did, and it was a blast--the kids were great and asked perfect questions. What a day!!

Here's the sign they had by the front entry of the school.

Sign On Front Entry At Wilson!!
