Hau'oli La Helewi!

Happy Halloween!

You may dress up as a surfer or a hula dancer for Halloween, but in Lahaina on the island of Maui, they take their Halloween celebrations and costumes seriously!

If you’re interested in reading more about Lahaina’s celebration or seeing some of the crazy costumes, click on this link.

What are you going to be tonight? Are you taking kids to a Harvest Party, or are you trick-or-treating? Or maybe you’re staying home and handing out candy. We always took our kids to our church Harvest Party and visited family and friends—lots of fun memories.

I’ll be handing out candy to the more than 100 kids who come by our house.

Aloha, and Mahalo for visiting!

Biggest Fan!

I Just Adore Cute Cards!

This is an adorable card one of my friends (and avid reader and supporter!) sent me after she got book three of The Hawaiian Island Detective Club, Ukuleles Undercover.

From Joni--My "Biggest Fan!"

I also love getting notes and e-mails from my readers, whether they're adults, parents or kids! I visited a school about a week and a half ago where one of the boys gave me a handwritten note about how much he was enjoying Menehunes Missing. (Book Two in the series.)

And here are some Thank-You notes from last year that I still have and treasure:

LOVE These Thank-Yous!

Please write to me, and have the kids in your life who have read my books write me as well--I really do LOVE hearing from you all!

Hau'oli La Hanau, Shane!!

Today is My Son, Shane's, Birthday!!

Shane and His Sister, Ashley, with Mr. Lincoln at Gettysburg

I think I should sing Happy Birthday to him in Hawaiian, don't you? I even found a little tutorial on YouTube to help with the pronunciation so you can learn to sing it too!

Here are the words:

Hau'oli la hanau ia 'oe
(Pronounced: How-oh-lee law hah-now yah oh-way)

Hau'oli la hanau ia 'oe,
Hau'oli la hanau ia 'oe,
Hau'oli la hanau ia Shane,
Hau'oli la hanau ia 'oe

And here's the link to the YouTube video for all you adventuresome types! In the meantime, I'll be singing to my very special son, Shane!!

Pineapple Maze Anyone??

This is the time of year when we love to go through corn mazes--getting lost and surprised by eerie creatures hiding around the corners and at the end of a wrong turn.

Maybe some of you have had the good fortune to be able to visit the Pineapple Maze--Extreme Pineapple at the Dole Plantation on Oahu. This thing looks amazing!

Dole Plantation on Oahu

Since my first book in The Hawaiian Island Detective Club series is entitled, Pineapples in Peril, I was curious about Extreme Pineapple. When we were in Hawaii, we visited The Dole Plantation on Oahu. Do you see us in the photo?

Anyway, we never saw the maze, but apparently it opened in 1998, covers over three acres, includes 14,000 plants (not just pineapples), and is the world’s largest outdoor maze.

And Here We Are Eating
Fresh Pineapple Over Sorbet!
The challenge in this maze is to check-in (in order) at each of the eight stations. Fun times! I think I need to make sure I take on this challenge when I get to the islands again.

You really have to go to the Dole website and take a look at the aerial view of the maze—very cool! Here’s the link:
