Y is for Yaaaaaaay!

Vlado/FreeDigitalPhotos.net

You’ll hear Kimo screaming Yaaaaaaaay! a lot! He gets totally excited about everything the kids discover during their mystery-solving journey.

Can’t you just picture him bopping around and screaming Yaaaaaaaay!?? Leilani sometimes wishes she were ten years old again because being 13 meant too much responsibility and more maturity than she often times wanted to show. I know I still experience those moments when I want to throw off all things sensible and just run around in circle screaming like a little kid—do you?

Hmm . . . maybe that’s why I write for 8 to 12 year olds! Yup—it’s my chance to bop around and scream Yaaaaaaaay!

We’re at the end of the ABCs OF THE HIDC!—only one more letter left until the October 2, 2012 release date for Pineapples in Peril (Book 1 of The Hawaiian Island Detective Club.)

In the meantime, the Blog Tour Continues!! Please visit Gail Baugniet's Blog Today for a new review. I’ll keep you posted as more reviews come up—into the second week of October.

chanpipat/FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Of course! The entire goal of the teen detectives is to discover Whodunnit!

I hope the kids in your life will enjoy the journey with Leilani, Maile and Sam as they figure out the mystery happening in the pineapple fields. Maybe they can use their own detective prowess to figure out Whodunnit before the characters do!

Now that we’re getting so close to the release date for book one, What’s next for The Hawaiian Island Detective Club? You won’t have to wait long! Book two, Menehunes Missing, releases on February 5, 2013.

V is for Vandalism

Wikimedia Commons

Vandalism at the Tong Plantation is what first triggers The Hawaiian Island Detective Club into action. Leilani, Maile and Sam are determined to find out who’s destroying the pineapples and why.

Along the way they discover clues and plan a stakeout, but become totally confused at the evidence—why are things pointing to one person as the culprit, and then to another? Will they ever figure it out? Ahhh, yes . . . you can rest assured that the amazing teen detectives will find Victory!

There’s one other V word I’d love for you to keep in mind—Visit!! I hope you’ll all have a chance to visit Hawaii sometime soon. I have a trip planned, and can’t wait to enjoy all the islands have to offer.

U is for Undercover

Teeratas/FreeDigitalPhotos.net

What fun to go Undercover! At least that’s what Leilani thinks. But sneaking around, spying and planning a stakeout brings on many problems she never imagined.

Go ahead and laugh as you read about the kids’ predicaments—and how they get out of them and eventually solve the mystery.

When you read any of the books from the Hawaiian Island Detective Club Series, you’ll discover the unique chapter headings. Umi means “ten” in Hawaiian. Each chapter in the teens becomes “ten plus one,” “ten plus two,” etc. So, ten, eleven and twelve become: Umi, Umikumakahi and Umikumalua. Keep trying to pronounce those chapter headings! Just wait until you see the twenties!! Yikes!

T is for Tutu

Danilo Rizzuti/FreeDigitalPhotos.net

NO! Not this kind of Tutu!!

Tutu is an endearing term for Grandma. There isn’t a “T” in the Hawaiian alphabet, but the term comes from other Polynesian languages such as Tahitian. Kainoa refers to his grandma as Tutu, although we never get to meet her in the story.

The Tong Plantation is where the pineapple damage is occurring. The kids visit the plantation offices and fields several times throughout the book while on their quest to solve the crime and bring the vandals to justice. I loved imagining and creating this amazing plantation. I hope your mind creates the same amazing visuals as you read!

S is for Surfing . . .

Africa/FreeDigitalPhotos.net

What would Hawaii be without Surfing?? Leilani is a big surfer-girl. Her surfing buddy is Maile’s older brother, Kainoa. Leilani’s been surfing with him since she was eitht-years-old, but now that she’s 13, she looks at 16-year-old Kainoa a little differently. Hmm . . . I remember the angst of teeny-bopper crushes—do you?

Then there’s Sam and all his Snacking. He always has something in his pocket to chomp on. I wonder how long he can go before he digs in his pocket again?

Finally, the big S words for the kids include: Sleuthing, Snooping and Solution. Come along with the members of The Hawaiian Island Detective Club as they Solve the mystery of who’s been vandalizing the pineapple fields.
