Snow Storm???

Ahh, yes--the east coast has once again been hit by major snow storms. This isn't unusual for those who live there, but what about Hawaiians???

Take a look at this Weather Channel report from December 29 about a big blizzard on the Big Island of Hawaii. Mauna Kea was hit with major winter weather! Check out the report and photos:


Are any of you avid skiers? How about visiting the Big Island and taking a little ski trip on Mauna Kea?? Here's some info on skiing in Hawaii:

Do you get a lot of snow where you live? We didn't get any so far this year. Even though I love my flip-flops and flip-flop weather, I also love having a few days of seeing beautiful white snowflakes falling outside my windows!

Wet or Dry???

Two weeks ago I talked about being directionally challenged. Here's some more interesting "directional information" about the Hawaiian Islands.

Are you living in an area of the country where it's cold and wet right now? We are very wet in the Pacific NW, so I often think of the islands and how nice it would be to be warm and dry!

But even in Hawaii there are two sides of every island with some distinction in climate. Yes, it’s mild and gorgeous every day all year long with a splash of rain everyday. And although one island is generally wetter (Kauai) than another, every island has variety.

Windward is the wet side of the island (the east)

Leeward is the dry side of the island (the west)

I hope you’re learning lots about Hawaii. With my post two Thursdays ago I spoke about Mauka and Makai,  so with today’s post, you should never get lost, and always know what side of the island you’re on, right??


And, check out another one of my stuffed doggies! Looks to me like he’s prepared with a hooded sweatshirt and heading to the windward side of the island.

The Great 808!

On Monday The University of Oregon Ducks played in the National Championship game in Dallas. They lost the game, but Duck supporters are so proud of their team--Conference Champions, Rose Bowl Champions and their Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, Marcus Mariota!!

Marcus is from Hawaii, so I love to focus on anything interesting I can discover about him and his Hawaiian heritage. Did you know that the area code for Hawaii is 808 and Marcus has a custom facemask that reflects his beloved islands by showing the 808???

Do you see the big "0" in the center and the "8s" on either side?

I am so proud of my alum football team and can't wait to see what they do next year! I also plan to follow Mariota in his NFL career--wherever he lands!
