Mourning, Stump-toed, and Gold Dust Day?

The above are three types of geckos in Hawaii. There are seven—those three and:

Orange-Spotted Day, Fox, Small Tree,
and Common House Geckos.

When I lived in Hawaii, I stayed a summer in a house near the UH campus. My roommate was a gecko. He was a funny guy—Oops—let me correct something here!

I believe the gecko that lived with me was a Mourning Gecko. This species is all female. Yup, all female! The female lays the eggs. No male needed to hatch a bunch of baby females. So, I continue . . .

This funny little girl loved my posters. At night when I’d come into my room, she would scamper across my walls, under all the posters. They’d wiggle and shake, creating a slight thunder in my room. I loved that greeting.

Mourning Geckos have been the most prevalent species in Hawaii. There is, however, a more aggressive species, Common House, which may be taking over the lead.

It is believed the geckos arrived in Hawaii by stowing away with the arriving Polynesians. According to scientific studies, their eggs are salt-water resistant, so these eggs could have made the trip as well, on a log or some other floating debris.

How fun it was to have a gecko roommate. I won’t mention the un-fun of having cockroaches!

Aloha, and Mahalo for visiting!

Surfer Girl And A Skateboard Riding Gecko!

Have you ever visited my website??

If so, maybe you’ve gone to the game page and tried a few of the games???

I tried all the games and failed miserably at the surfing ones. But I was good at the Surfer Girl Dress-Up game, and when I hit the “Done” button, she surfed quite well—unlike my surfers in the other games who always crashed and burned!

Funny, when I lived in Hawaii I surfed and did pretty good with the “baby-sized” waves. Never did graduate beyond that, but at least I had the strength to paddle fast and hard, catch the wave, stand up,
and ride it in—Sah-weeeeeeet!!

As you probably already know, as well as being a great detective, Leilani is a big surfer girl. Check out next weeks blog posts to learn more about Leilani’s favorite surfboard and what kind of new one she wants to buy.

In the meantime, please visit my web site, check out the games and all the pages, then share the site with the kids in your life.

After all, everyone loves playing a game with a skateboard-riding gecko!

And I bet they’ll be a lot better at the surfing than me! There are other games, including a banana-throwing gorilla, falling coconuts, underwater games, and girl’s dress-up-Hawaiian-style games.

Be sure to sign my guestbook when you visit. A big thank-you to everyone who has already done that and left me a comment.

Mahalo for reading my blog, and I’d love to hear your comments (or check a box below!)

Floating On Flip-Flops!

Here's another Christmas Gift I received this year (actually a stocking stuffer!)

Cute Little Flip-Flop Floating Candles!

Aren't they adorable??

Can you see the wick in the center of the small hibiscus flower? They're floating candles. Maybe I'll use them this summer when I have some friends over for a bar-b-q. Or . . . maybe not--they're just so fun to look at! How could I ever burn them??

Do you have any cute Flip-Flops or Flip-Flop items around your house?? Please share them with me so I can highlight them in my blog--

YOU COULD BE A STAR!!!
