The Wonderful Lighted Banyan Tree in Lahaina! |
I just LOVE small town celebrations--especially at Christmas! We're from a small town in SW Washington and I so enjoy the tree-lighting ceremony held in our quaint little downtown.
This year, on December 1, 2012, I was in the little town of Lahaina, Hawaii on the island of Maui, for their Banyan Tree lighting ceremony. The Banyan Tree is amazing all by itself. Add the buzz of excited people, the school band playing Christmas music, and the countdown to the lights--WOW--it's Christmas!!
Enjoy the short little video as well as the still photo, and the picture of me and my hubby under one of the many trunks and wandering roots of the incredible Lahaina Banyan Tree!

Wow, looks like a fun time! I so want to go there one day. :) It's interesting to see lights on something other than a pine tree. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was such a fun event, Sandra! Not dramatic like a big city tree-lighting, but such a great small town atmosphere. Hope you get to go to Hawaii someday soon! Aloha! --Cheryl
DeleteYou and your hubs are so cute!
ReplyDeleteAwww . . . You're so sweet, Jessica! We certainly had fun in Hawaii. Aloha! --Cheryl
DeleteI love the picture. The video and your post remind me of the musical South Pacific, where they sing about banyan trees. Thanks for showing me what they actually look like
ReplyDelete:-)
Thanks, Brandi, for visiting and commenting. Those Banyan trees are amazing. This one has many, many trunks! The roots grow done and create a new trunk. The entire event was totally fun. Aloha! --Cheryl
DeleteI thought of you, Cheryl, while decorating my tree and listening to Bing Crosby sing Mahalo Ka Leke Yamo. :) I would love to see the Banyan tree. I will put it on my "Pleeeeeeze God" list. ;)
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
Linda
How fun, Linda! I really need to dig out some of my Hawaiian music. I love it when they play Mele Kalikimaka on the radio! Hope you get to make it to Hawaii some day soon. It's such a great place to visit and explore. Each island is unique--everyone seems to have a favorite! Aloha! --Cheryl
DeleteMele Kalikimaka? That is what I get for trying to spell it phonetically. :P
ReplyDeleteTee-Hee!!! Aloha, and, again--Mele Kalikimaka, Linda!!! --Cheryl
