We’ve just observed Christmas and if
you’re like me, you’ve watched a lot of Christmas movies during the month of
December.
The movie, Silent Night, is based on a true story that happened in a cabin in
the Ardennes Forest on Christmas Eve during World War II. I really enjoyed the
movie, and was surprised to hear about all the factual information actually
used in the movie. Hollywood, of course, had to increase the drama and
conflict, but overall it reflected the essence of what happened.
Then my son informed me about the
real-life little boy in the movie, Fritz
Vincken, and how he came to America as an adult to locate the American soldiers
and did find one of them who had been a part of his special Christmas Eve in
1944. He stayed in America and eventually settled—guess where??? Yes—Hawaii!
So, how cool is that??
Fritz became a baker and lived in
Honolulu until shortly before he died on December 8, 2002 in Oregon. Another connection for me! I
grew up in Oregon, and only recently moved across the Columbia River into SW
Washington.
In a few weeks I will highlight
another interesting movie that features Hawaiian teens and is also based on a
true story. Do you know any amazing movies based in Hawaii or about Hawaiians?
I especially love a great story that is also TRUE!!!
Mahalo

What an interesting turn of events, Cheryl! I haven't seen Silent Night, but it's now on my movie list :-)

It's a great movie, Deb! Hope you do have the opportunity to see this one, and if you do, let me know what you think!
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you in 2012!
We did the "Christmas movie thing" this year, too. I thought it really helped me get into the holiday spirit. It's especially fun with two or more of the boys join us.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Wow, that's so funny! Cool connection.
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch many Christmas movies this year. Maybe next. ;-)
I agree, Rhonda! I have two boys and a girl. One of my sons watched Silent Night with me--he's the one who then researched it. It's a good one for boys.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jessica, for visiting and commenting. I hope 2012 will be a wonderfully blessed year for you and your family. Hugs!
